What is a Credit Report?

A Credit history or credit report is, in many countries, a record of an individual's or company's past borrowing and repaying, including information about late payments. The term "credit reputation" can either be used synonymous to credit history or to credit score.

In the U.S., when a customer fills out an application for credit from a bank, store or credit card company, their information is forwarded to a credit bureau. The credit bureau matches the name, address and other identifying information on the credit applicant with information retained by the bureau in its files.

A good credit report goes a long way to helping you obtain credit and determining the rate you receive. Your rating is not established by the government or by financial institutions - it is established by you.

How do I establish a good credit rating?

The easiest way to establish a good credit rating is to pay your bills on time. Another way is to apply for a credit card. If you use it responsibly and at least make your minimum payments, you can develop a history of good credit.

The importance of the Credit Application

The application process is important, The Credit Application that your company uses, has to be carefully constructed so as to capture as much pertinent information as possible about your prospective customers.
